Police in Fort Frances say a proactive check of a parked vehicle has led to charges for a 43-year-old woman.

The Rainy River OPP say on April 14, around 11:30 p.m., an officer checked a parked vehicle idling in the Church Street area of Fort Frances and saw drug paraphernalia in plain sight.

Further investigation led to the arrest of the driver for impaired driving and further tests were taken.

As a result, the driver is facing one charge of impaired driving, their vehicle was impounded for 7 days and their drivers license was suspended for 90 days.

The driver was released by police and is scheduled to appear in court next month.

Residents are reminded that drug impaired driving is a serious threat to road safety and carries the same penalties as alcohol impaired driving. The OPP say if you see an impaired driver, call 911 immediately.
