With incredible sadness, we announce the passing of Isaiah Matthew Stevens. He passed away peacefully @ LWDH where he was surrounded by his immediate family. Isaiah suffered from congestive heart failure which was exacerbated by IV drug use. He wanted others to know this, in hopes that he can sway even one person from using.
Left to mourn are his parents: Theresa Stevens, and Leonard Stevens. His beloved sister Serenity Nyberg, brother-in-law Jason Nyberg, sisters Fawn Stevens & Faith Stevens. Uncles Norman Simard (John), George Simard {Priscilla), Aunties Gladys Comeau (Joseph) & Darlene Thompson. He never had any children, but he cherished his relationships with his nieces Sequoyah Stevens, Cianna Stevens & nephews Montana Nyberg, Cloud Petiquan & Avery Bryant {Athena). His great nephew Winston Nyberg held a special place in his heart. Cousins, Veralee, Christine, Louis, Annie, Nicole, Douglas, Russell, Estelle, Dylan, Cecil, Rodney, Jolene, Cree & Autumn. Special acknowledgment for all her prayers and support Bertha Nylund and Cousin Veralee Wesley.
Predeceased by cousins, Verna May, Mitchell, Betty- Anne, Shawn, and Tanya and his grandparents as well as his uncles, Charlie, Louie, Alex and Kenny Simard and Jerry Thompson and his Aunty Bessie.
Isaiah had a heart unlike no other. He loved hard and once he found that place in your heart, he was yours & you were his. Friendship was important to him. We'd like to acknowledge Joelle Roy, Penny Skead & Deanna Meeches for continuing to bring him comfort in his last few months. His bestie Denise Copenace, loved & cared for him when he couldn't love and take care of himself.
Isaiah was born & raised in Thunder Bay. This is where he has chosen to be laid to rest...scattered around our best memories. We relocated to Kenora in 2004 for new opportunities. Isaiah was well educated, smart in a way that you knew he was in the room & he had a strong voice when he chose to speak. Isaiah's love of his life was music. He was incredibly talented in singing, and the violin, and recorder when he was younger. He participated in several choirs and singing groups around Kenora and Thunder Bay over the years. One of his simple pleasures was going for rides and belting out tunes with his friends.
He worked in child welfare for most of his career and like his friends, he loved the children that he worked with, always advocating for their best interests. We'd also like to acknowledge his special relationship with his supervisor, Doreen Parameter, his work Mom. She challenged him & he loved her for that.
We'd like to thank the staff in ICU and Cardiac Unit at TBDH for their caring support this past year. Additionally, LWDH. Specifically, Dr. Noack, Dr. Drake, and Dr. Snyder. Char, Lori, Stacy, Barb, Alan & Rob. They were patient & loving while we continued to struggle with this insurmountable loss, and the ice machine, you brought him great comfort. So much so that he googled your cost. IYA!
