Jack Cherry
‘Wetokamegaabo’
October 30, 1957 – June 17, 2023

With his family by his side Jack Cherry passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was predeceased by his parents George and Evelyn Cherry.

He leaves behind his family to mourn are his wife of 30 years Lisa Gillman, his children Nathaniel (Herminia), Christopher (Winter), Athena (Avery), Darion, Jordan, Rianne, Jacklyn, Zach, Andrew, Jennifer, Caitlyn, and Samantha his grandchildren Kynsey, Matthias, Landen, Journey, Dakota, Magnus, Urijah, Killian, Hermosa and great grandchild Oren.  As well as many other relatives, siblings nieces, nephews too many to mention that he loved dearly.

When Jack was young he worked all over Turtle Island doing various jobs, such as construction work, flagging, hydro slashing, earning the name ‘Jack of all trades’.  He was raised by his grandparents Jack and Mildred Cherry.  He had a good work ethic, strong leadership skills and great family man who graciously would give and receive advice.

Jack was very humorous and loved laughing; his laugh was very contagious and comforting to his family and friends.  He loved doing his back flips as a surprise party trick to entertain family and friends.  He enjoyed music and instruments, loved going for long car rides, fishing, camping, watching hockey and going to casino’s but mostly doing family gatherings, bbq’s, fireworks, etc.. or anything that fulfilled his enjoyment of bringing the family together.

A wake service will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at Washagamis Bay Band Office, Washagamis Bay, Ontario. A traditional funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at Washagamis Bay Band Office, with interment to follow at Washagamis Bay First Nation Cemetery, Washagamis Bay, Ontario.
