There were several tight games in the SIJHL over the weekend, before a 13-2 blowout on Saturday night.
On Friday, the Dryden GM Ice Dogs took out the Red Lake Miners 4-1, the Fighting Walleye beat out Thunder Bay 1-0 and Fort Frances edged out a victory against Wisconsin 6-5 in the shootout.
On Saturday, Kam River took the second game against Thunder Bay 5-4, Dryden took out Red Lake again 4-2 and Wisconsin came back swinging against the Lakers – winning 13-3. Kam River won again against Red Lake 6-2 on Sunday.
The Fort Frances Canadians U11 team won this year’s Canadian Cup tournament, defeating Thunder Bay’s Norwest Stars 8-2 in the final on Sunday.
They opened the tournament on Friday with a 3-1 win over Dryden, then dumped the Winnipeg Rangers 5-1.
On Saturday, the Canadians defeated the North Shore Elks 7-1 before losing 2-0 to the Stars.
The Canadians advanced to the final game with an 8-1 win over the Kenora Thistles Sunday morning.
The Neebing Hawks of Thunder Bay were the bronze medal winners, defeating Kenora 7-6.
The Broncos boys' swim team competed in a triangular on Friday with Proctor and Rock Ridge.
Michael Sobkowicz finished first in diving. Brendyn Scholler was second in the 100 free. Trygg Hegstad was third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Broncos’ relay teams finished second in the 200-yard free and 400-yard free.
