The Northwestern Health Unit has reported 1 new positive case of COVID-19 in the region.The positive case was confirmed in the District of Rainy River area.

Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

Currently, the NWHU is reporting 6 active cases across the catchment area. One each in the Dryden/Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Rainy River regions and three in the Kenora Health Region, but 1 case was confirmed outside of the NWHU catchment area.

Through the week of June 14-20, 2021 the NWHU has conducted 1,144 COVID-19 tests and a test positivity rate of .61 per cent.

NWHU recommends that everyone, including those who have been vaccinated, assume COVID-19 is in their community and practise preventive measures like physical distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, good hand hygiene, and not touching their face.
