The Kenora District Services Board is getting another $1.9 million as part of it’s Homelessness Prevention Program.

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says $202 million was announced in the budget to provide support services.

“What this is intended to do is fill in gaps in services and programming and primarily support,” Rickford said on Wednesday outside a new housing project being built by the KDSB at the corner of Matheson Street and McClellan Avenue.

“So when people are transitioning out of really unfortunate circumstances, marginalized housing…homelessness, we have an opportunity to case manage and support them.”

He adds this will allow them to provide support services both in Kenora and other communities in the region.

“Good people helping them work through some of their day-to-day challenges.  Transitioning to better housing options that we’re providing and creating a better life and a better community for all of us.”

The KDSB confirms part of the funding will allow them to provide support services at their new build in downtown Kenora.
