A Kenora biathlete has excelled at a couple of international competitions this month.

Michelle Simone topped the podium in her age group in the Pursuit event at the US National Biathlon Championships in Casper, Wyoming this past weekend.

She also competed in the Sprint race.

Simone, Tim Wehner and American Martha Belleisle formed the North American Trouble Shooters, for the relay and finished in 11th place.

Simone also won two medals at the the 24th International Biathlon Union master’s Championships in Finland.

She competed in the Sprint, Mass start and Individual races-moving up the field each race to place second in the Mass Start and win the Individual race in her age group.

Simone also claimed the Top Shooter award, which is given to the top female and male with the combined best shooting from three races at the championships.

Michelle and Wehner credit their success to the new Biathlon range recently completed at the Lake of the Woods Gun Club.

This new facility allowed them to train regularly on a range that is similar to competition venues.
