Pool staff at the Kenora Recreation Centre have been laid off until the fall, as leadership with the City of Kenora made the decision to shut the pool down with ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

The pool is now closed and staff will be draining it to prepare it for an annual maintenance program, and staff hope that the pool will be able to reopen safely at that time.

“Recreation programming has been one of the hardest services hit during this pandemic. This is not only a financial decision for the city, but a decision which provides some certainty to staff for the coming months,” states the city, in a prepared release.

The city says they intend to offer summer beach programming, depending on COVID-19 restrictions.
