It was a sold-out show for the Kenora Skating Academy on Friday!

The Academy held its ‘Our Rock Stars on Ice’ show at the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre Friday night, formerly known as the Kenora Recreation Centre, featuring the first annual Battle of the Blades.

It was a competition between eight teams of a figure skater paired up with a hockey player from the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints, who have been practicing their routines over the last few weeks.

Coordinator of Triple P.L.A.Y. Barry Reynard, Colleen Neil and City Councillor Barb Manson served as the night’s celebrity guest judges, giving each team a combined score of 30.

The pair of Claire and Spencer held down the top spot with a nearly perfect score of 28 out of 30 – winning prizes donated from local businesses who sponsored the show.

The night also included a number of performances from individual Academy skaters, as well as groups of Precanskaters, Canskaters, Junior Stars and Star 1 to 3 Skaters.

And after the show’s Grand Finale, the Skating Academy also took time to acknowledge the careers of three long-time skaters who are graduating and moving into the next chapter of their lives.
