The City of Kenora’s Development Services Team is inviting residents and business owners to submit their input on the city’s events and promotions this summer.

The city is hosting a virtual event today to go over opportunities for residents and businesses to take part in the city’s 'Glad You Are Here' campaign, as well as Harbour Friends, Open Air Markets, promo and marketing materials, a patio policy update and more.

“We’re hosting a summer sneak peak for Kenora businesses, presenting on the different initiatives that we have planned for the summer,” explains Allyson Pele, Manager of the North West Business Centre and member of Kenora’s Development Services Team.

“It’s a great way to let businesses know what we’re working on from the city and tourism standpoint. Hopefully, they’ll piggy-back on some of that, or use some of the language and information that we’re providing too. And to let them know we are working towards some really great summer promotions to really drive folks to Kenora,” Pele adds.

She says some of those initiatives include new city merchandise, targeted social media advertising campaigns, video testimonials from businesses, the new Harbour Friends ambassador program, the return of Open Air Street markets this summer and a ribbon cutting event planned for May 19, to kick-off the Glad You Are Here campaign.

“We’re going to be using the slogan ‘Glad You Are Here.’ We’re glad that Kenora residents, seasonal residents, neighbouring communities and visitors are here in Kenora. We really want to promote shop local, visiting our local restaurants, tourist camps and things like that,” Pele explains.

The City of Kenora began its 'Glad You Are Here' campaign in 2020, which aims to support local businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and to welcome tourists back to the region.

Pele adds the city will also be introducing businesses to new marketing materials related to Kenora’s recently-approved branding and slogan, ‘Jump In’, created by Wake Marketing. It was approved by Kenora councillors earlier this month, replacing ‘North America’s Premier Boating Destination’.

The event is taking place virtually today between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. HERE.
