Water levels are finally starting to improve in the region, with a bit of the summer season left to enjoy.

Water levels are still extremely high in northwestern Ontario – but they’ve been dropping steadily.

The Lake of the Woods Control Board says Lake of the Woods remains over its 95th percentile level for this time of the year – but has now dropped below the 2014 peak after dropping by another 5” over the last week.

With dams in the Kenora area still fully open, levels are expected to drop by another 3 to 5” this week.

With decreasing inflows into Lake of the Woods, the Control Board says outflows from the lake will also drop – with the Winnipeg River seeing a 5” drop and a 3.5” decline at Minaki.

Elsewhere, the LWCB says Lac Seul is at its 80th percentile level after dropping by 2” last week. It’s expected to drop by another 1 to 3” over the next week, with outflows of 450 m3/s.
