Lake of the Woods Girls Hockey Novice and Atom division had a strong showing in Fort Frances while they all vied for a medal in the playoffs on Sunday. In the Novice division, The Lake of the Woods Blizzard and Lake of the Woods Panthers faced off in the bronze medal game after their third and fourth ranking respectively in round robin play. The Blizzard won all 4 of their round robin games with no penalty minutes for the weekend! During round robin play the Panthers fought hard to win two, tie one and lost only one game 2-0. It came down to an exciting double shoot out bronze medal win for the Panthers Katie Vasquez making the game winning shot. The Novice Lake of the Woods Red Devils had the strongest showing winning all their games with 33 goals for and only two against in round robin play. They had a close match for the gold medal against the Fort Frances Timbits where they fell 3-1 to the hometown favourites taking home a silver medal from the border town.
In Atom action the Lake of the Woods Panthers managed to pull off a fourth place standing after round robin play to put them in the playoffs on Sunday against International Falls. They fought hard to play for the gold, but lost to advance onto the bronze medal game to face the hometown Lake of the Woods Hornets. Going into the bronze medal game the Hornets had won two and lost two in round robin play with equally strong competition to face in the final game. Both teams played strong and represented Kenora with a clean, hard game with the Panthers coming back to Kenora with the bronze medal.
In both divisions, all Kenora teams played in the final medal games and managed to push out teams from Emo, Fort Frances and Thunder Bay.
