Lavern Kavanaugh, "Waabshkimiigwan", of the Bear Clan, aka "Luv" born on May 27, 1979 in Kenora, Ontario, from Animakee Wa Zhing #37, suddenly passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023. Lavern is survived by his pride and joys, his children Isaiah, Elyse "Babygurl" (Rylee), and Deacon, his wife Loranda, his loving mother Rosanne Kavanaugh, and his sister Bonita Kavanaugh (Royden). He also leaves behind his nieces Liyah Kavanaugh, Tiyana Oshie, and Dominika Oshie-Bob, along with numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family, friends, and golf family. Lavern was predeceased by his younger brother, Dayton Kavanaugh, his dad Maynard Oshie, his maternal grandparents Isaac and Agnes Paypompee, his paternal grandparents Jimmy and Eva Oshie, his cousins Bruce Kavanaugh Jr., Nazareth Kwandibens, Jordan Nash, Destiny Skead, Kyla Namaypoke, Evannah Mandamin and Farrah Oshie, and his Auntie Lorna Crow. Lavern will always be remembered for his infectious smile, vibrant sense of humour, and his love for "Superman". He loved playing volleyball, badminton, and was an avid golfer, well known within the golfing community, as he was one of the best! He enjoyed golfing new courses and meeting new people, he wasn't one to shy away. If he wasn't golfing or enjoying time at home with his family, you could find him enjoying the peace, fishing at Stephens Lake with his wife. Lavern was very dedicated and took pride in his role as the Head Technician at the Water Treatment Plant in his home community of Animakee Wa Zhing #37, where he worked for more than 10 years. His children were everything to him, he enjoyed spending time with them, watching them grow, and sharing in all their accomplishments and always proud of them. He always called them "My Babies". Lavern also shared a very special bond with his mom Rosanne, and his sister Bonita, aka "Bon", as he would call her. He will also be missed by his closest friends, Brandon White, and Maverick Blackhawk, his good friend and golf partner, Ramsey "Wobby" White, along with all his friends, "My Boys", as he often referred to them. Special mentions to his friends, Felicia White, Aileen Oshie, Terry Bird, and his goddaughter, Calista Paypompee. Wake service will begin on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Animakee Wa Zhing 37 First Nation Rec Centre, followed by traditional funeral service on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 10:00 am with burial to follow in Whitefish Bay First Nation.
