Liberals make another push for paid sick days

The provincial Liberals continue to push for legislation giving workers ten paid sick days each year.

Interim leader John Fraser is introducing a Private Members Bill that he and others have failed in previous attempts.

“I am reintroducing this because Ontario Liberals believe that when you’re sick, you shouldn’t go to work, and that all workers should have access to paid sick days to support themselves and their families,” says Fraser.

The initial push for more sick days came during the pandemic directives that asked people to stay home if they are sick.

For many, it meant not getting paid.

Fraser says while the pandemic has eased, there is still a need to give workers the ability to stay home when sick and not worry about missing a paycheck.

“Right now, there is an affordability crisis in Ontario, and that creates an even more critical need for paid sick days for all. At its core, paid sick days are all about supporting workers and their families.”

The Ford government provided three paid sick days during the pandemic, but that benefit expired at the end of March.
