It was a great night to celebrate the success and achievements of many local businesses in the Kenora area last night at the Kenora and District Chamber of Commerce’s annual Business Awards banquet.
Close to 40 local businesses were nominated for awards in 13 categories. Members of the public nominated each business, and the final award winners were chosen by anonymous local dignitaries.
Owner of CARSTAR Kenora, Peter Scheibler took home the award for Entrepreneur / Business Owner / Manager of the Year.
"I'm humbled, honestly. It's very exciting. We try to look after staff who are number one as well as our customers. Thank you very much. There was some tough competition, so congratulations to all the nominees," he said.
Scheibler and CARSTAR were nominated amongst A&W's Randy Nickle, Three Lions Masonry's Sean O'Dea, Taylor Made Pet Products' Crystal and Doyle Taylor, Spirit Oak Tea Company's Breanna Doering and Alexander Evans, Shane and Jessica Scott of Shane's Northern Tire & Auto Inc., Shyy Kennedy of Buck + Doe Wellness Studio, Quesada's Lindsey Caron and Print Gear Inc.'s Kyle Chagnon.
With Covid-19, Scheibler explains how his business has perservered through the pandemic.
"It has been a struggle just like for all Kenora businesses. But we managed to adapt accordingly. We took all the safety precautions in place and CARSTAR was on top of things and gave us safety recommendations along with the Northwestern Health Unit. We toughed it out and did not have to lay anyone off. That was huge because our staff is huge, too," he added.
Kenora was the only Ontario Chamber west of Timmins to hold an in-person celebration as they decided to wait until some restrictions were lifted in order to recognize local businesses in person.
