President of Kenora Motorsport Entertainment, Anthony Leek, says the Lake of the Woods Speedway has made the difficult decision to cancel their upcoming races, due to COVID-19.
The 4th Annual Stay in Kenora 100 and Vintage Twin Shootout was scheduled for February 14, 2021.
The Speedway shares that Manitoba’s new isolation requirements, no fans being allowed, the inability to guarantee social distancing and a lack of snow all contributed to the decision, and staff ask all residents to stay safe as the community continues to fight against COVID-19.
Next events are tentatively scheduled for June 19, where race fans will hopefully be able to watch the new racing season’s open practice, before the season is set to officially open for stock car racing on June 25.
Last year’s winter racing season began on the Family Day long weekend, with the 3rd annual Stay in Kenora 100. It was Dylan Smith who claimed his second straight Stay in Kenora 100 victory. In second place was Don Rogers, who was also the winner of the Twin Shootout event. Christopher Leek finished third, and over 300 people were in attendance.
