A Lakehead University professor is receiving another grant for her study into early mental health intervention for adolescents.
A prestigious SickKids-Canadian Institutes of Health Research New Investigator Research Grant of $299,938 is going towards Doctor Aislin Mushquash’s research into an app called JoyPop and its impact of those aged 18 to 25 with mental health difficulties.
The grant provides funding for three years.
Here in the Northwest there is both an increased need and decreased access for those kinds of mental health supports.
Prior to this grant Doctor Mushquash had received $100,000 from Brain Canada in November for her research into the app, along with support from the Thunder Bay Community Foundation with a grant to purchase used iPhones for youth involved in the during pilot research phase of the study who did not have one.
The study is being done in partnership with Dilico Anishinabek Family Care and Children’s Centre Thunder Bay.
The JoyPop app was developed here in Canada in collaboration with researchers at McMaster University and Clearbridge Mobile.
It is currently available only for iPhone and iPad devices.
