Staff with the Lake of the Woods Control Board say as they work to get ahead of the winter freeze-up, some fairly major water level decreases can be expected over the coming days.
After a summer of being in its 95th percentile level for this time of the year, Lake of the Woods has dipped to its 75th percentile level – still quite high, but not quite as drastic as levels were earlier in the season.
Now, with multiple outflow authorizes scheduled, the LWCB says water levels on Lake of the Woods will drop by 3 inches over the next week, with an up to 18-inch drop on the Winnipeg River near Norman Dam and a 12-inch drop near Dalles and Minaki.
Elsewhere, levels on Lac Seul sit in their 40th percentile level for this time of the year, after dropping by 1.5 inches over the past week. It’s expected to remain stable over the next week, with no outflow increases scheduled.
