Manfred ‘Fred’ Moeller
May 27, 1948 – January 1, 2023
It is with intense sadness that we share our father, brother, son in-law, loved one and dear friend Fred passed away on January 21, 2023. He was 74. With family and loved ones at his side, after a brief but fierce battle with cancer he passed away at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Fred is predeceased by his wife and love of his life, Patricia Moeller (Pat), parents Otto and Gertrude (Trudy) Moeller, aunt Lena and Elfriede (uncle Alfred), and brother in-law Gabriel Ciarciaglini.
Left to mourn and fondly remember are his three children, Cassandra, Christian and Jem, sister Inga Ciarciaglini, brother Herb and Annette Moeller, brother Burck and Barb Moeller. Also, mother and father in-laws Linda and Glenn Iriam, brother in-laws Lyle and Deb Iriam and Roy and Diane Iriam. Fred leaves dozens of beloved nieces, nephews, friends whom he loved as family and colleagues.
Fred was born in Wismar, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1953 with his parents and siblings. He spent his youthful years in Stoughton, Saskatchewan. Upon graduating, he went to work for Woolworth’s as store manager across western Canada and the Yukon. Fred met the love of his wife, Patricia Iriam, while working at Woolworth’s Kenora. They went on to marry in Williams Lake on June 3, 1977 and together, they continued to move with Fred’s career. His older children were with them through numerous transitions and communities. In 1996, Fred came to work for Canadian Tire Kenora as manager where he remained until he retired. He was a well-known fixture at the store to colleagues, patrons, and community members alike. Jem joined the family in September of 2004 and quickly became a daddy’s girl and loved her time working with him at Canadian Tire. He loved people but rarely remembered their names. He was born with a pleasant soul and could get along well with some of the most intense personalities.
A long-time resident of the Pellatt & Kenora area community, he worked and volunteered in many facets. A 20+ year volunteer of the Pellatt United Fire Fighters “PUFF”, Pellatt Emergency First Responders, and Board Member for both PUFF and Pellatt Community Centre. Also, he was a long-time trainer for St. John’s Ambulance. His sessions were always filled with interesting and lively stories of experiences in the field. Fred was also a member of Pequonga Lodge in Kenora.
Fred was a great lover of a joke or a story but couldn’t always remember them straight. Fred was well-known lover of CBC Radio and was usually happy to discuss events of all sorts. Fred was also a great supporter of Special Olympics and helped out whenever and however he could. Fred was also a well-known animal lover. It was a rare animal that didn’t love Dad. He would often stop to give treats to animals on his way to town or that came to visit him at home or at work.
Although, he is with the love of his life, Fred will be sorely missed by family, friends and untold others.
Celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 27th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pellatt Community Centre, Highway 641, Lac Lu.
