Margaret Lois Helen Rule (nee Sharples)
August 23, 1928 - February 7, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother (Mum), Gramma and Great-gramma (GiGi).
Margaret (“Margie”) passed away peacefully in Pinecrest Home for the Aged with family by her side.
Mum was a proud, intelligent, loyal and independent woman who loved her family above all else.
After attending Teachers College, she began her teaching career in Kenora. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Gordon Sr., and they were married on July 11, 1949. Margie and Gord enjoyed many happy years in their beloved home on Rabbit Lake. They raised three children together Art, Jaye and Gord, Jr., unfortunately, Gord Sr. passed away in 1990 and Margie has lived in her home and managed very well until this past August.
Margie enjoyed going for coffee with the “neighbourhood ladies” in her younger years and continued that tradition with her best friends, Izzy and Elsa every day well into their 80’s!
Bridge and cribbage were some of her favourite pastimes, along with gardening, knitting, baking and reading. She volunteered for many years at Pinecrest, well into her 80’s, and was a proud member of the RTO.
Marg was known to all as the sweetest, kindest of people. To say she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin and friend is an understatement. Her generosity and selflessness was a family treasure. More than a few times over the years, as adults, her children would be told that Mrs. Rule was the best teacher they ever had.
Marg was predeceased by her husband of over 40 years, Gordon, Sr. She is survived by her 3 children Art, Jaye (Dave) and Gord, Jr. (Fay), and her pride and joy- 8 grandchildren (Morgan, Dallyn, Ben, Jordan, Chelsea, Aubrey, Ashley and Tannis) and 6 great-grandchildren (Jari, Otto, Hugo, Sybil, Elsie and Martha), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be dearly missed.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Alban’s Cathedral on February 17th, 2023 at 11:00 am with Rev. Marion Jackson officiating, a luncheon will follow in the lower hall. Interment will take place after the lunch at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery.
For those unable to attend, a live stream will be available at https://fweb.tv/96016.
The family would also like to thank Mike Limerick, all Unit #2 Nurses, PSW's and Pinecrest staff for their compassionate care of our Mum.
Pallbearers will be Gord Rule, Jr., Jordan Rule, Dallyn Rule, Morgan Lange, Kenton Ammerman, Fraser Gall, Peter Kearney, Jamie Longe, and the Honorary Pallbearers are Art Rule and Ben Lange.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Pinecrest Home for the Aged, 1220 Valley Drive, Kenora, Ontario P9N 2W7, St. Alban’s Cathedral (https://stalbanskenora.ca/donate-today/), or the Borrowing Cupboard at St. Joe’s Health Centre, 21 Wolsley St, Kenora, ON P9N 3W7.
