Gabe Mastromatteo has a pair of medals after the first day of the Canadian University Swimming Championships
in Victoria, BC.
Mastromatteo won gold in the 50 meter breaststroke in a Canadian University record time of 27.53 seconds.
He shaved almost a full second off the previous record set back in 2015.
Gabe also won silver in the 400 meter relay race with the University of Toronto varsity swim team.
He swam the breastroke leg and the team finished in a time of 3:43:45.
The U of T men sit in fifth place in the team standings.
