After being closed for over a week, Mellick Avenue is open to traffic again.

City crews have been working to repair a watermain break near 11th Street North.

Director of Human Resources Roberta Marsh says city staff had to do a lot of work to make the repairs.

“We had a 100 percent of that whole team working everyday, all day long, trying to give reasonable spell offs, one or two, as we continued to provide that service,” Marsh told city council this week during Sewer and Water budget deliberations.

Marsh adds that the repair work definitely took it’s toll on staff.

“There is significant things like overtime.  Things like trying to give rest to workers.  We were very lucky, knock on wood, that nobody had injuries related to fatigue working on these things.”

The repair work was finally completed yesterday and the road was re-opened Friday afternoon.
