Kenora's Midget AAA Thistles ended their season with a loss to the Norman North Stars in Thompson yesterday. After losing the opening game Friday, Kenora bounced back to tie it up Saturday.

Unfortunately, it seems they had little left in the tank for the Sunday matinee. Norman scored twice in the first, added another pair in the second, before sealing the deal with another in the third on their way to a 5-0 victory on home ice.

Overall, Kenora finished the regular season with 12 wins against 24 losses and eight losses in overtime for a total of 32 points. This compares with 36 points last year, when their record was 16-24-4 on the year.

After showing such promises with some impressive wins in December, the Christmas break seemed to sap their momentum.

Norman now goes on to face Southwest with three games in Souris next weekend. Ironically, for Thistle fans it's a sense of what could've been, as Kenora seemed to own the Cougars in the regular season.

All-start Grant Valiquette finishes the season with 44 points on 16 goals and 28 points, good enough for 16th overall, although it should be noted Brent Aiken came on strong in the second half, ending the campaign with 39 points.

Davy Fisher's goaltending stats also led him to the all-star game, where he was chosen defensive player of the game. Such accolades will undoubtedly earn him a look from scouts over the off-season.

There will also be time to think about the front-office and bench coaches, as the search for the next level of success continues. While a long way from the doormats of a decade ago, the red and white are still looking for the magic formula that will make them playoff contenders.
