Conservation officers with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry are searching for who may be responsible for shooting a bull moose and leaving it to rot near Nipigon.
The MNRF began their investigation after a tip that the moose was found on Shadow Creek Road off of Highway 11, north of Nipigon. Fines of abandoning a moose after it's been shot can reach above $1,000, and would likely include a hunting license suspension.
In 2017 and 2018, there were multiple investigations into abandoned moose and deer carcasses that were left to spoil, and charges were laid. They included incidents near Bois Road and Race Lake Road near Sioux Lookout, as well as the Thunder Bay area.
If you have any information about this incident, you are asked to contact to contact the MNRF TIPS at 1-877-847-7667, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or call the ministry’s Sioux Lookout office at 807-737-1140.
