Staff with the Northwestern Health Unit have received a report of a new case of COVID-19 in the Sioux Lookout area.

The health unit defines the Sioux Lookout area as: Bearskin Lake, Cat Lake 63C, Deer Lake, Hudson, Kee-Way-Win, Lac Seul 28, MacDowell Lake, Muskrat Dam Lake, North Spirit Lake, Osnaburgh 63B, Pickle Lake, Pikangikum 14, Poplar Hill, Sachigo Lake 1, Sandy Lake 88, Sioux Lookout, Slate Falls, Weagamow Lake 87.

Follow up with the person involved and their contacts has already started, and anyone who is identified as a potential contact will be contacted directly by NWHU staff.

This brings the Northwestern Health Unit’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 47, with 44 of them considered as resolved, after a new case was reported in the Dryden / Red Lake area over the weekend.

The NWHU is continuing to recommend that everyone assume COVID-19 is spreading within your community, and to practice preventative measures like social distancing and proper hand hygiene, and wearing a mask at all times.

Masks or face coverings are now mandatory in all enclosed public spaces. The move went into effect on August 17 across the region.
