New KDSB apartment complex nearing completion

A new apartment complex being built by the Kenora District Services Board in downtown Kenora should be ready for occupancy by late this summer.

The funding announcement was made just over a year ago.

Barry Baltessen is chair of the KDSB and says they already have tenants for some of the units.

“We’re going to wait for the construction to happen, but obviously we already have case managers working with people and identifying folks that could potentially live here,” says Baltessen during a tour of the building last week.

Baltessen adds that the building will have supports in place for the tenants.

“Focus more energy on case management.  You know, when you are working in a system like that, a lot of times is spent doing paperwork, and the red tape part of it.  It’s going to get freed up and allow more time with our clients to help them to better navigate and improve their situation.”

The KDSB received $3.8 million from the province for construction of the building.
