Specifically, the increase will be $1.05 as of October 1, 2023.
Currently, the general minimum wage is $15.50 in Ontario, but that will be increasing as long as this passes in the Legislature at Queen’s Park.
The 6.8 per cent raise will increase the annual pay of a minimum wage employee who works 40 hours a week by $2,200.
This increase would give Ontarians the highest minimum wage in the country; Newfoundland & Labrador pay $13.70/hr and is the lowest, while workers in the Yukon make the most per hour currently at $15.70.
Special minimum wage rates will also increase for students under the age of 18, who work 28 hours a week or less when school is in session or work during a school break or summer holidays, from $14.60 to $15.60 an hour. And homeworkers (those who do paid work out of their own homes for employers), will go from $17.05 to $18.20/hr.
