The Northwestern Health Unit has reported one positive case of COVID-19 in the Kenora region.

The health unit defines the Kenora region as the following communities: ​English River 21, Jaffray-Mellick, Keewatin, Kenora , Kenora 38B, Lake Of The Woods 37, Minaki, Norman, Northwest Angle 33B, Rat Portage 38A, Redditt, Sabaskong Bay (Part) 35C, Sabaskong Bay 35D, Shoal Lake (Part) 39A, Shoal Lake (Part) 40, Shoal Lake 34B2, Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, The Dalles 38C, Wabaseemoong, Whitefish Bay 32A, Whitefish Bay 33A and Whitefish Bay 34A.

Follow up with the person involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for this case will be contacted directly.

For reasons of privacy, NWHU does not release or comment on information about the location of COVID-19 test results.

To date, there have been 70 confirmed cases and 2 probable cases of COVID-19 in the health unit catchment area. 70 of the 72 cases are listed at resolved. There is one active case in each the Kenora region and District of Rainy River according to the NWHU.

Everyone should assume COVID-19 is in their community and practice preventive measures like:

  • physical distancing,
  • wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge,
  • good hand hygiene,
  • not touching their face and
  • staying home when sick

Anyone who has symptoms, or who has been in contact with a positive case, should get tested.
