Parents across the province are now eligible for up to $200 and $250 to help offset their child’s education costs.
The Ontario government has announced new Catch Up Payments that they say will help to put more money back into parents’ pockets and help students across the province overcome learning gaps created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We recognize the challenge on the horizon – the insecurity in the global economy,” explains Education Minister Stephen Lecce, in a virtual announcement on October 20.
“It is absolutely responsible to provide direct support to parents, $200 for every child. It underscores our party and government’s conviction – parents play a critical role in the education and life of their child. We want to give them every tool to support them.”
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford explains the $200 to $250 benefit can go towards additional tutoring supports, supplies or equipment, and both in-person and remote learning students are eligible. It’s all part of a $365 million commitment from the province.
Parents with school-aged children up to 18-years-old can receive $200 per child, while parents with children with special education needs up to 21-years-old can receive $250. Applications for the payments will remain open until March 31, 2023.
