Everyone is safe following a "weapons call" that Kenora OPP attended this afternoon at Beaver Brae Secondary School.

Kenora OPP says they were advised that a youth had posted a picture of a handgun with a threatening message on a social media account at 1:52 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7.

Police attended immediately and took the youth into custody.

Further investigation revealed that there was no firearm in the youth's possession.

The youth was warned and released unconditionally.

"Air Soft guns and pellet guns are not illegal to own, but carrying them in public places or posting pictures where they could be perceived as real could have fatal consequences," said the Kenora OPP in a prepared release adding that police in Kenora have dealt with similar calls in the past, and will continue to take these seriously.
