The chief of the Pellatt United Fire Fighters says a blaze near Myrtle Rapids could have been a lot worse than it was.
Volunteer fire crews were called out around 2 am on Sunday to a deck fire at a cabin.
Two local families used garden hoses to prevent the fire from spreading into the bush until the firefighters arrived.
Fire chief Barry Bennett fire crews were able to set up a couple pumps in a nearby lake and tackled the blaze, but the large deck was complete destroyed.
He says the fire likely started from a sauna that was on the deck.
