Pete “Joonie” Cowley Jr., age 77, passed peacefully and began his journey home on the early morning of July 23, 2023 at Thunder Bay Health Science Centre with his family by his side.

Joonie is survived by his children Annette, George (Sylvia), Juanita, Wayne (Rosemary), Floyd, Damien, Winston, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.  Also his siblings Glenda, Lorne, Leona, Nancy, Melvina, and Sherry-Anne.

He was predeceased by his parents, Pete Cowley Sr., and Sally Cowley; his wife of 48 years Lillian Paypompee; his son Buifford “Beaver” Cowley; his brothers Leon, Clifford, Gary Cowley and sister Gloria (Annabelle) Strong.

Joonie had a very witty humor and loved to share his funny stories, he loved fishing and had many humorous fishing stories, he enjoyed fixing cars, yard sales with his wife Lillian, and loved to watch his boys play hockey before his blindness set in.  He will be missed and remembered by all the love of laughter he brought into our lives.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Thunder Bay Hospital, Naotkamegwanning Health Services, nurses, doctors, Band Office staff for their help and support.

His wake services to start on July 29, 2023, traditional funeral services will be held at his residence in Whitefish Bay on July 30, 2023, with traditional burial service to follow.
