Plane forced to land on Highway 17, no injuries reported

Drivers along Highway 17 saw a rare sight on Tuesday as a plane was forced to land on the roadway after an emergency failure in the air.

No injuries have been reported after an aircraft performed an emergency landing on Highway 17 on Tuesday, but the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the scene.

The Marathon OPP say on August 16 at roughly 3 p.m., emergency responders with the OPP, Marathon Volunteer Fire Department and Superior North Emergency Medical Services received a report of an aircraft blocking traffic on Highway 17, near the Neys Provincial Park.

The pilot is alleging the aircraft developed a mechanical problem in the air, forcing the pilot to conduct an emergency landing on the roadway. The pilot was the lone occupant of the vehicle, and they didn’t suffer any injuries.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says their investigation will continue.
