The size of docks and boathouses on Lake of the Woods and surrounding lakes could be changing soon. Kenora city council will vote on whether or not to make them bigger. Planning administrator, Tara Rickaby, explains.

"What we've done is we've recommended to council that the size be increased from 80 square metres to 83 square metres," she said.

Rickaby says this is in response to public requests.

"The big thing that has happened is over the last five years the Kenora Planning Advisory Committee, which is allowed to give variances to the zoning bylaw under the planning act, has received a large number of applications of docks and boathouses," she said.

Rickaby says 83 square metres is the average of the requests. The changes will now be voted on by council.
