More service disruptions are to happen at Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital (RLMCMH).

Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital (RLMCMH) announced that due to the current physician shortage, the hospital will, unfortunately, have to suspend its Obstetrics program.

The temporary suspension will last from now to August 3, 2022.

RLMCMH is warning any pregnant Red Lake residents who may give birth in that time period, to follow up with their health care provider to make sure arrangements are in place for their delivery.

It has been a challenging year for RLMCMH, the hospital has already been forced to close its Emergency Department doors temporarily back in March. Another closure was expected to happen last week, luckily, a LOCUM physician was able to cover the 12-hour time period.

This is just one more situation that illuminates the dire nature of the healthcare crisis in northwestern Ontario. For residents in Red Lake, the next nearest medical centre is in Dryden, over 200km away.

RLMCMH would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation through this very challenging time.
