Students in northwestern Ontario could begin the 2023-2024 school year on August 30 or September 5.

Students and families across northwestern Ontario are being asked for their thoughts on the start and end date of the 2023-2024 school year in the region.

Staff with the Keewatin-Patricia, Kenora Catholic, Rainy River and North West Catholic District School Boards, as well as the Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique Des Aurores Boreales, have released a survey to help gather input from the region.

Schools say the first option is having school start on Tuesday, September 5 with the last day of school on Wednesday, June 26 – with semester 2 beginning on February 1.

The second option for families is school starting on Wednesday, August 30, the second semester would begin on January 29 and the last day of school would be set for Friday, June 21.

Both options include 187 days of in-person instruction with 7 Professional Development days, and the Ministry of Education mandates that Winter Break would begin on December 22 and end on January 8.
