Leadership with Shoal Lake #40 First Nation have confirmed that a second community member has tested positive for COVID-19.
The member had been transported to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital for testing, and the affected household has been instructed to self-isolate and self-monitor for symptoms. Contact tracing has begun.
The community’s COVID-19 mobile testing unit will be available at the arena until 1 p.m. for those who wish to get tested or may suspect they have been in contact with someone who is ill.
The first case of COVID-19 in Shoal Lake #40 First Nation was found on November 11. A community member received healthcare in Winnipeg, where an outbreak occurred. They tested positive as they returned to the community, and began their immediate self-isolation.
The Northwestern Health Unit recommends that everyone assume COVID-19 is in their community and practice preventative measures like social distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed spaces and when not touching your face.
