Officers from Treaty 3 Police Service can only sit and wait on the mainland, rather than go on patrol on the island. Since the ferry to Shoal Lake 40 needs repairs, Chief Erwin Redsky says small fishing vessels are being used to connect the island community, while repairs are being completed.

The community is home for about 250 members, like Stanford Fair, who are frustrated by the loss of the ferry. The chief adds there are important health implications for some members.

Kenora MP Greg Rickford says he's already been in touch with branches of the federal government, in an effort to speed up repairs.
