It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved ‘Pa’, Stanley Novak Sr. at Lake of The Woods District Hospital on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the age of 83 surrounded by his family. Stanley was born and raised in Kenora where he attended Mount Carmel School. From the age of 12 Stan worked at Lindstrom and Nilson in the evenings and weekends until the age of 15 when he started full time. At 26 Stan started working at Boise Cascade until he retired in 1999. Stan met and married the love of his life Louise on August 7, 1965 and settled on Eighth Street North where his two boys were born and he lived out the rest of his life. Stan and Louise enjoyed many parties, dancing, singing and fundraising. Stan spent many nights at Evergreen Rink flooding the ice for the boys and travelling to their hockey games. Stan was passionate about his country music, always entertaining with his guitar and harmonica. Stan always talked about his road trips with friends and family to Nashville, Detroit Lakes and New Orleans. After Louise passed in 2003 Stan turned into a wonderful cook and baker, always sharing his delicious peanut butter cake, pickles and cheese buns with family, friends and neighbors. Stan loved his family unconditionally and taught us all many valuable lessons, most especially his carpentry skills. Stan was awarded with the Pat Boucher Memorial Award for Outstanding Community Contribution which recognized Stan and the Novak family for their tireless efforts in support of Triple Play and all the children and youth that benefited from the program. Stan loved to spend time with the great grandchildren, teaching them how to play guitar and passing along his love of music. Stan loved a bargain and spent many days in the local stores scouting out bargains and talking to many friends and family he would meet along the way. Stan was a regular fixture at the rink, proudly watching his sons and grandchildren play and coach hockey throughout the years. Stan was a lifetime member of the Notre Dame Catholic Church. Stan was predeceased by his wife Louise, his mother Jessie, his brother John, his brother-in-law Aurelle and many of Louise’s family. Stan is survived by his son Stanley (Debbie) and son Doug (Kathleen). Grandchildren David (Stephanie), Cameron and Brandon (Sarah Jane). Great Grandchildren Rohan, Holly and Magnolia. Sisters Caroline Bremault and Helen (Roman) Pieczonka and Sister in law Olga Novak of Winnipeg as well as many loved nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 21st, 2023 at 11:00 am at Kenora Rec Centre followed by a Come and Go Reception from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. A private family interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Lake of The Woods District Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. Special thanks to the kind staff at Lake of The Woods District Hospital for the great care, especially over this last year. Rest easy Pa, thank you for all you did for your family, there are no words to express how much you will be missed but we know how tired you were and how much you wanted to be with Gramma. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com for the Novak Sr. family.
