The accused involved in a serious assault on Sunday night in Kenora will be in court today to answer to their charges.

The Kenora OPP says the ‘aggravated assault with a weapon’ took place around 6:30 p.m. outside of a local business on Second Street South, near the intersection with Chipman Street.

The area was blocked off to traffic and one suspect was taken into custody.

One individual was located nearby with life-threatening injuries, and thankfully, the OPP says the victim is expected to be released from the hospital soon.

Now, Acadia News has learned that 28-year-old Timothy Kent of Kenora is facing charges of Assault with a Weapon, was remanded into custody and is scheduled for his first court hearing today.

These charges have not been proven in court.

Kent will be attending for arraignment, where the accused is identified, have their charges read to them and they decide to plead guilty or not guilty.

The OPP notes their investigation is continuing with the assistance of their Crime Unit and anyone with more information is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
