The Kenora U18 AAA Thistles (1-15-0) will be searching for their second win of the season as they prepare for a three-game homestand this weekend starting tonight against the Norman Northstars (6-10-3).

The Thistles are coming off a tough weekend against the Parkland Rangers (8-8-2) where they lost both games 8-1, and 7-2.

Head coach Scott Parsons said in an interview earlier this week for the team to be successful against Norman they need to cut down on the goals they are allowing.

“I think we made a little bit of progress this week in practice. Hoping that guys are going to be a little more on the same page,” said Parsons.

Last weekend, Kenora went 1 for 12 on the powerplay against the Rangers. Parsons added the team needs to take advantage more on the powerplay this weekend.

This season the Thistles have been outscored 33-8 in the first period, and the bench boss wants a full 60-minute effort from the team right off the hop.

“Show that we can compete right from the first whistle all the way to the end of the 60 minutes. In this league, it’s so strong that we need to have a consistent 60-minute effort every single night otherwise you’re not going to have the chance to compete. I have a lot of faith in our guys now that they’re going to be up to the task,” explained Parsons.

Tonight’s affair will be the first meeting between these two teams since January 25, 2020, where Norman was victorious 8-3.

The puck drop will be at 7:30 p.m. for tonight’s game at the Kenora Rec Centre, with tomorrow’s game being at 1:30 p.m. Kenora will conclude their homestand on Sunday against the Winnipeg Thrashers (10-6-1) at 2:00 p.m.
