Three charged in Ear Falls drug bust

Two northwestern Ontario residents and a Winnipeg resident have been charged. Two of the three have been released.

Three people have been charged with a number of offences after a traffic stop and search warrant led to the seizure of a variety of drugs, including methamphetamine and cocaine, earlier this month.

On September 7, the Red Lake and Ear Falls OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 105 near Ear Falls and found that the occupants of the vehicle were in possession of controlled substances.

Following the traffic stop, the OPP executed a search warrant at an Ear Falls residence and seized over 30 grams of methamphetamine, a gram of cocaine, 19 hydromorphone pills, digital scales, 2 canisters of bear mace, 2 knives and $1,200 in Canadian currency.

As a result, 25-year-old John Polkinghorne is facing charges of:

– Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine,
– Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000,

58-year-old Stuart Smith of Machin is facing charges of:

– Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine,
– Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine,
– Possession of a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin),

33-year-old Christopher Flett of Winnipeg is facing charges of:

– Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine,
– Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine,
– Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000,
– Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose,
– Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (two counts),

The OPP note that Polkinghorne and Smith have been released to answer to their charges at later dates, while Flett has been remanded and held in custody.
