The women's only fishing derby is returning to Kenora, but there's been a time change. Event organizers have decided to change the date from July 4th. One of the organizers, Linda Richardson explains.
"We're going to be holding the Triple D Women's Walleye Tournament on August 22 instead of July 4. There was another big walleye tournament happening that weekend and we wanted to make sure we were going to be offering something that was done in the safest and best manner," she said.
The Triple D event will feature a derby, dinner and dance. Richardson says they're looking at having dock fishing and boat fishing so all levels of anglers are welcome.
"It's a women's only fishing derby. It's $200 for a team of two. that includes your derby entry fee, dinner and a dance. We have the Discovery Centre docks booked for the tournament and then the Keewatin Legion booked for the dinner and dance," she said.
The derby will have numerous prizes all awarded by points for things like, largest fish, mystery weight, taking a selfie with your catch and fun costumes. Firs place will win $500, second $400 and third $300.
