Wauzhushk Onigum Nation (Rat Portage) are implementing a full two-week community lockdown beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, and it will be lifted at 12 a.m. Tuesday, December 8.
Chief and Council of Wauzhushk Onigum Nation issued the lockdown, as cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in the Kenora region. There are currently 21 active cases of COVID-19 in the Kenora region, with 17 of those cases identified since Monday, November 16.
During the lockdown, community members will have to limit their movement within the community and limit contact with individuals who are not in their household.
Members of Wauzhushk Onigum Nation who work in town -- and are unable to work from home -- will be required to provide an authorization letter from their employer stating they must work and include their work schedule through December 8. Those individuals will only be allowed access through the checkpoint at the times and dates provided.
Wauzhushk Onigum Nation also announced community-wide COVID-19 testing on Tuesday, November 30.
