Two men from Wisconsin have been fined $22,000 and have been banned from hunting in Ontario for four years after illegally shooting a moose.
Records state that Steven Juhike of Rib Lake, Wisconsin shot a bull moose from a motorboat on Johnson Lake, which is part of the English River, on October 12, 2019, while being guided by Michael Anderson of Merrill, Wisconsin.
The pair were approached by a conservation officer and according to records made numerous false statements in an effort to conceal the unlawful manner in which the moose was killed.
Steven Juhlke pleaded guilty and was fined $3,000 for discharging a firearm from a conveyance, $1,500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer, and $3,500 for possessing illegally killed wildlife.
Michael Anderson pleaded guilty and was fined $3,500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer and $10,500 for possessing illegally killed wildlife.
In addition to the fines, Juhlke and Anderson were suspended from hunting in Ontario for four years.
