The Victim Crisis Assistance & Referral Service is getting ready for their big conference next week. Executive Director of the Kenora Chapter, Monika Huminuk explains what they'll be doing at the meeting.

"We have a number of speakers coming. We have Pace Law Firm coming to stalk about collisions and victims rights around collisions. We're also recognizing a number of our partnering organizations in the community. We all do come together to meet the needs of victims in our community," she said.

Melissa McCormick is one of the guest speakers.

"She is an author of two books. She is also an inspirational speaker and a survivor of sexual assault by a gang rape. She's also in the process of working on a feature film for her books. The second book was released last spring and now they're moving forward with the film. So we're really excited to have her with her new releases and we invite people to sign up and register for the event," said Huminuk.

She also explained why they're holding this meeting next week.

"Next week marks the 10th anniversary of National Victims of Crime Awareness Week. It is also the national recognition week for volunteers that work with agencies in the community. So we're taking the opportunity to recognize both our partnerships and our volunteers," she said.

Huminuk says there are about 20 spots available still. It's on Tuesday beginning at 9 in the morning at the Lakeside Inn. Lunch will be included.
