Water woes on the Niisaachewan First Nation

By Tim Davidson Apr 20, 2023 | 10:52 AM

Residents on the Niisaachewan First Nation (Dalles) are being urged to conserve water.

A letter has been sent to all the homes in the community about problems at the water treatment plant.

Chief Lorraine Cobiness says the treatment plant is deteriorating with age and one of the water filters has broken.

Cobiness says the parts for the repair have been ordered, but because they are specialized, they have to be made to order and imported.

As a result, the treatment plant can’t produce water as quickly as it used to, and until repairs can be made, community members are being asked to be aware of how much water they are using.

There is still water access and Cobiness says they are working as fast as they can to fix the problem.
