The U18 AAA Kenora Thistles have made their selections and for the most part, formed their team after their selection camp wrapped up this past weekend.

Over 40 players took the ice for the three-day camp, taking part in drills and scrimmages to allow the coaching staff to evaluate them in a game situation.

Head coach Scott Parsons was very pleased with the competitiveness and the skill level of the players that attended.

“This weekend was great, honestly we had a lot of really really talented players on the ice. I’m very comfortable with the group that we have  here moving forward and I’m looking forward to getting these kids back to playing against their own age group again,” said Parsons

Parsons did add that even though he and his staff selected their team, some tough conversations were had with players they had to cut, which he said is always unfortunate.

The players that were selected, Parsons thinks will push the team to be competitive for this upcoming season.

“We’re going to be competitive. The players that chose to come and play here are really going to push us forward this season. It’s all going to come down to how these boys come together as a team and how we put our systems in place. At this point I don’t see any reason why we can’t be at the very least a playoff team in this league,” says Parsons

Even though the team has been formed, for the most part, the Thistles won’t be releasing their full roster until later this month.

The team will ramp up into high gear when the players return to school in early September, as practices and high-intensity training will begin.

Thistles will open up their 2021-2022 Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League campaign on September 25, 2021, where they will play host to the Brandon Wheat Kings.
