The Kenora Area Media Literacy Competition was held this morning at King George VI public school. The speech competition included grade 4 to 6 students from five area schools. The winner was SMB grade 5 student Mayah Hughes

“I did gender equality because when I go to school, I overhear people that think boy and girl are not equal and I just thought both genders are equal,” said Hughes.

Maya was also sure to recognize her competition today. “All of them did really well and they all had really good topics, and I’d like to congratulate them on making it this far,” she added.

Schools in the region recently held literacy competitions, with winners advancing to today’s event.

Second place in the competition went to Mikaela Moon from King George, who spoke about her personal experience with anxiety and 3rd went to Valleyview’s Madison Trent, who’s topic was climate change.

Strong presentations were also made by Wyatt Scott from St. Louis School who chose the topic of cheese, and Satu Jutila from Evergreen School, who spoke about how nature helps with stress.
