Another five million in provincial dollars is going towards the Student Nutrition Program and the First Nations Student Nutrition Program.

Together they provide more than 600 thousand school children with healthy meals and snacks.

The money is being split with $4.25 million going to the Student Nutrition Program with the remaining $750k supporting the First Nations Student Nutrition Program.

However at an announcement Wednesday Children Community and Social Services Minister Michael Parsa added a further expansion.

“We are launching the Healthy Students Brighter Ontario campaign by partnering with the Arrell Family Foundation, Breakfast Club of Canada, the Grocery Foundation, the Schad Foundation and the Student Nutrition Ontario.”

A combined goal of $10 million is set to end student hunger which the organizations have already raised $1.67 million for so far.

Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce says students who aren’t hungry are academically successful students.

“In a prosperous country like Canada, students should not be coming to school hungry. Proper nutrition is foundational for children to be more prepared to learn and to participate in classrooms and to thrive in extra curricular activities.”
